Barry Mcgee

Barry Mcgee 'Untitled'

As part of the current anniversary show at SFMOMA I was particularly drawn to this artist, Barry Mcgee – a San Fran local and street artist who also goes by the pseudonym of Ray Fong, Twist, Twisto etc. Here he uses an unorthodox method of displaying his paintings/drawings/photographs inside a collection of mismatched frames that bulge out from the wall. Not only do I like his style – his use of typography, found ephemera, patterns, textures and drawing technique but his approach to presenting this collection is witty and refreshing.

Holiday blues

Hipstamatic San Fran and Vancouver

Good lord! It has been an age since I’ve posted. Sorry (again!) about the lack of activity folks. Life has been muchos busy and I’ve just returned from a west coast trip to Vancouver and San Francisco. Post holiday blues are well and truly setting in and I’m already wishing I was back in North America. From the fantastical mountain top views of Whistler to bike rides across the legendary Golden Gate Bridge, rowing a viking ship in English Bay to exploring the infamous rock, Alcatraz, these are two very different cities that offer a diverse amount of culture and history.

Unputdownable

So first off, apologies for the lack of posts recently. I’ve just started freelancing and life has been somewhat hectic lately! I have a rather large backlog of posts so bear with me. Anyroad, on the way back from a weekend in Oxford recently I spotted this poster outside the train station. Genius.

A history of cats

Surely this is the best thing I’ve seen in ages!

Envelopes

with pleasure

Some rather nice envelopes for you here. Randomly picked up from the shop at the Pitt Rivers Museum in Oxford. (more…)

I would get this guy to DJ.

Badly Drawn pets

Badly Drawn Pets

Again with anything like this, it has probably been about for a while but I came across this rather hilarious facebook group recently. The Museum of Poor Art showcases ‘bad art’ and by that I mean an array of amusing, if not endearing artwork of pets, celebrities etc. It’s really worth a look if you want a good old laugh. I was thinking perhaps I should submit my drawings of Blur that I used to obsessively draw when I was 15. Anyroad, check out some of my personal favourites… (more…)

New Chk Chk Chk dates!

One of my favourite bands – Chk Chk Chk have just announced some worldwide tour dates to coincide with their new album release. Oh the excitement! For those of you who live in London, get yourselves down to Koko for the 4th of November. You can buy tickets here! Woo!

University stamps

I was sent these stamps recently from a good friend of mine who stumbled across them at an antiques fair in Oxford. The stamps were designed to illustrate the development of post war architecture. Apparently they reminded her of a rather retro book I own on Eastern European architecture (very well remembered Dawn!), I’m not sure if these buildings are still standing seeing as this type of architecture is generally considered an eyesore today, conjuring up much distaste and an urge to pull them down. However, I’m a big fan of post war architecture and think they have been depicted rather beautifully in these set
of stamps.

Sounds for the ear

Just felt I had to share this absolute classic after hearing it on the radio this morning!
