Sounds for the ear

I cannot stop listening to this tune by We Have Band. It has resided in my head for many days now, and yet I do not tire from it. Loving the video too which is directed by Jul&Mat and produced by SoLab. We Have Band are also currently touring (I’ve got tickets for their London show yay) check their site for a venue near you!

Take a looky.

Birdy’s

This rather lovely film has just caught my eye. Brought to you by Pleix, who are a viral community of artists, musicians and designers based in Paris. This animation features a menagerie of playful birds dancing and tweeting their way around a utility room. I’m not entirely sure what or who it’s for but the accompanying piece of music rather reminds me of an intro to a seventies educational programme for kids. A most charming film nonetheless!

Elvis Depressley

I came across this site recently to discover a plethora of great black and white photograph’s of various figure’s of cool. Particularly appreciating this shot of Sean Penn.

Merijn Hos

Some great work here from Dutch illustrator Merijn Hos. I particularly like these colourful collage’s.

Vinyl clocks

I chanced upon these rather intriguing clocks that have been made out of old record players. Would be interesting to see them mounted on the wall. I’m asuming you can change the record, but play it at the same time? Perhaps not. You can see a whole lot more at this guy’s Etsy Shop.

I’m currently reading ‘How not to run a club’ by Peter Hook from New Order, an account of the chaos and shambolic management that was the Hacienda. Anyway, in the book, amongst many other bands that are mentioned, are these guys (or girls rather). E.S.G. are a group of 3 sisters who hail from the South Bronx, who were pioneers of New York disco, bringing a poppy edge to
their music.

On listening to their tunes, it becomes evident how lasting their sound has become in the electro/pop phenomenon of late. Having heard their track ‘My love for you’ some time ago (which is on this album), and not knowing who it was by, it was great to discover it was these guys. Anyroad, this album is amazing! So much so I dragged myself round the records shops of Berwick Street and purchased ‘A South Bronx Story’ on 12 inch.

Here’s a tune off the album. It’s also available on Spotify, so check it out! More on Hooky’s book later…

Do not disturb

Allow me to introduce this fantastic collection of ‘Do Not Disturb’ signs, that have been accumulated from all over the world. Edoardo Flores – a retired civil servant from Italy has over 6000 in his collection from hotels he’s stayed at over the years. That’s a hell of alot of travelling!
