Sci-fi madness

And so it was that I attended a sci-fi fancy dress party on the weekend. Inspired by the aliens from Monty Python’s ‘The Life of Brian’. Constructing this outfit turned out to be an all day affair but much fun was indeed had in the process!
So how was it done?
I stuffed a rubber glove with cotton wool and inserted pipe cleaners into the fingers to make them bend, then mounted it onto a bowler hat (alas! not a fancy one, but purchased from Party Party in Dalston, probably the best fancy dress shop like ever!) then secured it with a makeshift splint so it would stand up right. The eye is just a ball spray painted white and upon it I painted an iris and pupil. The eye was then secured with a bit of wire which I inserted through the glove. I created the mouth from a bit of red felt which was sewed onto the material. Finally, the fabric was draped over the whole lot (having cut a whole in the top beforehand so it would fit over the eye/glove) and hey presto! A fully functioning alien costume (which I managed to keep on most of the night!).
